Records accumulate layer by layer, ultimately forming a vast forest of history. This design translates the “accumulation of records” into an architectural metaphor of a single tree growing through the extension of a robust trunk.
Serving as the spatial core and the building’s “trunk,” the Introductory Exhibition Hall houses 3,080 archive storage units. As visitors ascend along this sturdy trunk, they encounter Exhibition Hall 1, which surveys South Korea’s modern and contemporary history, Exhibition Hall 2, which offers immersive digital archive experiences, and an educational space dedicated to the technologies and processes of archiving.
The circulation then branches out toward Exhibition Hall 3, which presents personal histories, and the Special Exhibition Hall, which showcases newly accumulated records. Through this organic journey, visitors experience the vitality of “records growing like a tree” through the spatial narrative itself.
